Welcome to the race which introduced triathlon to the east coast
Join experienced race veterans and triathlon newcomers alike for the 44th year of the Hyannis Triathlon. Along with its sister race in September, this is the longest-running triathlon in the East!
Both the Sprint and the Olympic races start and finish at picturesque, sandy Craigville Beach. The courses are challenging — but still able to be completed by fitness enthusiasts who have trained for the distances. Starting waves for elites, age groupers, first-timers, even for family and friends who wish to race together! And don’t forget New England’s largest relay team competition!
The atmosphere is special, the views are spectacular, and your satisfaction of accomplishment will last for a long time!
Sprint Course Description
1/4 Mile Swim
A sandy running start into Nantucket Sound (expect water temperatures in the low 70s). The swim course is rectangular in shape, with swimmers never further out than 100 yards from shore. Heavily lifeguarded. Wave conditions over the years have ranged from glass-calm to a moderate chop. Breaking waves are extremely rare.
10.2 Mile Bike
This “rolling hills” course leaves the seaside community of Craigville to cross into the historic village of Centerville, then follows country roads into the historic villages of Osterville and Wianno before returning to Craigville Beach. The entire route is a single loop; with well-paved roads and police-protected intersections. View the course in detail
3.6 Mile Run
From the transition area at Craigville Beach, you’ll follow a road heading in the direction of the village of Hyannisport. There is one gentle uphill grade along the course. At one mile and two miles you will encounter aid stations (water and fluid replacement drinks). Each mile of the course is marked, and the last stretch is downhill! View the course in detail
Olympic Course Description
0.9 Mile Swim
Start your 0.9 swim in the warm late summer waters of sandy Craigville Beach (water temps invariably in the low 70s). The two-loop swim is protected by a large team of certified open-water lifeguards and ends at a finish arch just a few yards from the start. Great for spectators! There is a 30-minute time limit for the first half-mile section.
20 Mile Bike
The Olympic bike route leaves the Craigville Beach neighborhood to travel through the villages of Centerville, Osterville and Wianno. Just before you re-enter Centerville (at the 9-mile mark) you will turn left onto Bay Lane to re-connect with the first loop of the bike course for another circuit. Then head back to Craigville Beach for the run! View the course in detail
6.2 Mile Run
A 10k run traces the route of the sprint’s run leg. But at about 2.5 miles, Olympic athletes will complete a U-turn to tackle the run loop a second time. You’ll never go thirsty — four aid stations supply water and fluid replacement drink. The finish line is located where it all started — at Craigville Beach! View the course in detail
Duathlon Course Description
RUN #1: 1.4 Miles
Our duathletes will depart at the same time as the Sprint triathletes (7:30am). Your first run of the race will be out-and-back along Craigville Beach Road. Yes: there will be a water/hydration station mid-run! View the course in detail
BIKE: 10.2 Miles
Following the same 10-mile course as the Sprint distance triathletes, you will depart from the transition area at Craigville Beach to enter the historic of Centerville, then wind your way through the villages of Osterville and Wianno before returning to Craigville Beach. It’s a single, scenic loop! View the course in detail
RUN #2: 3.6 Miles
Leaving your bike at the transition area, you’ll grab some water at the in-transition aid station then head east toward Hyannisport, with a series of mild, rolling hills. Two water stops are staffed by enthusiastic volunteers along the way! View the course in detail
Aquabike Course Description
TWO DISTANCES!
Aquabike is a rapidly growing form of endurance racing — ideal for those who wish to swim and cycle but not run (often due to knee and foot injuries). USA Triathlon recognizes this sport category, and upon completion of two aquabike races in a year you will be ranked against other athletes nationwide and elible for Nationals!
Sprint Aquabike
Start time: 7:30am. You’ll follow the same swim and bike courses as those who are racing the Sprint triathlon. Here’s the difference: when you cross the bike dismount point your time is taken and your race is completed. You will receive results which show your times for each leg, as well as how well you did against other aquabike competitors.
Olympic Aquabike
Start time: 7am. You’ll swim the same swim and bike course as those who are racing the Olympic Triathlon. When you cross the bike dismount point your finishing time will be taken and your race will be completed. Then go cross the finish line to be memorialized by our race photographers!
Aquathlon Course Description
Swim & Run
Aquathlon is the newest race category to be added to multisport. The lack of a bike leg is ideal for those who do not own a bicycle, or who don’t wish to deal with the hassles of transporting a bike. USA Triathlon recognizes the sport, and upon completion of two aquathlons in a year you will be ranked against other athletes nationwide and eligible for national/international competition.
0.9 Mile Swim
Starting with the Olympic athletes at 7am, your first leg is a two-loop 0.9 mile swim in Nantucket Sound. You’ll enter the transition area, switch to running shoes, and off you go on a 10k (6.2 miles) run. Finish under the big arch by the beach. You will receive results which show your times for each leg, as well as how well you did against the other aquathlon competitors.
6.2 Mile Run
This 10k follows the Olympic triathlon course. It’s similar to the Sprint course’s run loop, with the difference being that while the sprinters complete one loop and head home to the finish, you and the Olympic triathletes will round a U-turn at about the 2.5-mile mark. Then head out for one more loop. The finish stretch is the same for all racers in all categories! View the course in detail
